memories of  TJ?

Cheryl Sporn Gross (NYC): Well, in general a smile comes to my face when I think about my days at TJ. In looking for memorabilia, I found all of my old report cards, and in looking at the awful grades I had, you’d think a frown would come over me instead of a smile! I know I wasn’t a particularly good student. I guess I did what I could to get by, but had more fun doing extra curricular activities. I remember loving everything about high school! I was, and continue to be, a “rah-rah” type of person!!!”

Lynda Alston Bare ( Richmond ): Memories of TJ? Let’s see. Are we over 50? Yes. Do we suffer from long-term memory loss? Yes. Well, there you go. Knowing you need info on the FBLA, I thought, “Yes. I was on the FBLA, but what did we do? Can’t remember.” Also I was on the Character Committee. I talked to Wanda Bass Alston, who was also on the Character Committee. The mission of the Committee was to “promote honesty.” I remember that, but what did we do? Neither of us could remember.

to sail or not to sail

Referring to the “More Recent Photos of Classmates” part of the website, Butch Blanton (King William) writes, “What’s with all the sailboats in the picture area? Doesn’t anybody have a boat without sails besides me?” He promises to send in a “boat without sails” photo soon.

what about the bands?

A few weeks back we mentioned Sound by Four. Others have reminded us about the Morticians and the Soul Senders – and, on the acoustic side, the Jeffettes and the James River Trio. Who has memories of hearing – or performing with – those groups or others like them?

pre-reunion jitters

If you are having pre-reunion jitters, you are not alone. At least one classmate has confessed to feeling “too pyramidal” to come. Another said he was feeling “awfully arthritic” and just wasn’t sure. The good news: after further thought, both plan to attend, in spite of their qualms.

Linda “Mopsy” Morris ( Richmond ) writes, “I know that there are other classmates out there who are significant people without partners and just a little intimidated about coming to a big 40th reunion dance. Although I probably didn’t appear to be an introvert in my cheerleading outfit in high school, I am one of those introverted folk who is a little shy about attending a big event with people I haven’t seen in years…. Maybe other classmates out there will join in the venture if they don’t feel alone.”

Truth is, lots of us are coming without partners. And most of us are coming with extra pounds and assorted stiff knees, hips, and other joints. So here’s the real scoop on this reunion: Spouses or guests are not required. Being at your ideal weight is not required. Dancing like John Travolta is not required. Villagers, Gants, and Weejuns are not required. Owning a boat, with or without sails, is not required.

As John Jay Schwartz ( Richmond ) puts it, “You can be assured that no one will feel left out. This is probably the most inclusive group of classmates anywhere.” And remember, scholarships are available, too. We want the greatest number of classmates possible to come together in October!

let us know…
