Dear TJ Classmate,

By now you know the news: our class will have its 40th reunion this coming fall - the weekend of October 29th. Those of us on the Reunion Committee hope you have marked your calendar and begun making plans to attend. We think the weekend will be enormously interesting and fun, and YOUR presence is what will complete it. Look for some preliminary material in the mail
very soon.

Information is also available on our class website at www.TJclassof1965.com.
If you haven't already been to the website, do check it out - and keep checking back for additions and updates as plans unfold. While you're there, please visit the "40/65 hindsight" page and send us some of your memories.
To get you thinking, here are excerpts of what several classmates have told us.

Joe Segal remembers taking Miss Henna's no-credit slide rule course, which began at
8 a.m. Miss Henna had a giant slide rule attached to the wall over the chalkboard. Joe's wife recently consulted with Phil Pollack when she wanted advice about replacing Joe's slide rule as a gift for him. According to Joe, Phil still has his original one! Joe is in Richmond these days.

Phil Pollack is also in the
Richmond area. He remembers that our Junior Stunt Night was postponed due to President Kennedy's assassination. He also remembers working the counter at the Clover Room our senior year, and he recalls that Parker Field "had that great old smell, mostly cigar smoke,
that the Diamond will never have."

Mary Ellen Navas remembers being arranged alphabetically in homeroom, adding that because she had come from a tiny parochial school, the scale and formality of homeroom were new - and seemed "big time." With regard to athletic events, she writes, "track
meets (watching) were my all-time favorite.

They were a great combination of socializing and sports. And we got a chance to see all those bodies!" Mary Ellen now divides her time between California and Utah .

Steve Green attended the ground breaking for Willow Lawn, where he met the Cisco Kid, who was dressed in his black and white outfit, six guns and all. Steve also remembers what seemed like miles of open land there at the time. You can follow the "TJ-Now and Then" link to find a "Then" photograph of Steve at a TJ sock hop as the drummer for "Sound by Four." Also in that photograph is another classmate, Larry Bernstein who will be our DJ on Saturday night. On the class website there's a link where you can vote for your favorite music of our era - and dedicate songs to all your True Loves, past and present!

let us know

Do you remember

  • whose homeroom you were in?
  • whether you ate lunch in the
    cafeteria or the rec hall?
  • what the name of our Junior Stunt Night was?

Think about it, and let us know. We look forward to hearing from you!
